The GNF Service Provider Consortium

The GNF Project established a Consortium of service providers who work with—or want to work with—new farmers in the Northeast US. The GNF Consortium was founded to build an effective and enduring "service infrastructure"—an active network of organizations committed to providing programs, services and advocacy for new farmers.
One hundred and eighty-nine organizations in twelve Northeast states signed on as Consortium members. The GNF Consortium is a rich mix of educational institutions, state and federal agencies, economic development and non-governmental service, farm and trade organizations. During the four years of the GNF project, they participated in networking, program and resource development, professional trainings, policy development and regional conferences.

Now, Consortium members continue to share tools, information, resources and insights, and to work together on advocacy and services for new farmers. They contribute to the GNF electronic list serve. GNF Consortium members have password access to the interactive directory on this website, and have the opportunity to participate in electronic discussions and distance learning. The Growing New Farmers Consortium is not a legal entity and does not obligate organizations to action, require dues or expose them to liability.

GNF Consortium member organizations agree to:

  • Actively participate in networking among beginning farmer service providers. A Growing New Farmers list serve with over 230 subscribers helps connect and inform providers. Please see below for how to subscribe.
  • Encourage attention to and advocate for Northeast new farmers
  • Support, develop and adapt programs and resources for Northeast new farmers
  • Participate in Consortium professional development activities

Together, these organizations have created a supportive, well-connected community of service providers and farm organizations to welcome, support, and meet the full range of needs of the Northeast's new farmers.
